2014 First Place Winner — Max Turnquist

>> Hi! I am Max Turnquist, and I would like to share with you how First Tee of Yakima has positively impacted my life. I was born with a congenital heart defect and have had three heart surgeries. That is why perseverance is a top core value for me. Being a heart survivor, I have learned to persevere over all challenges, which helps me in life and the game of golf. I have been golfing since I could stand. Golf has always given me a purpose, and succeeding in golf has helped me set goals. My golf coaches have always pushed me to be the best I can be in both life and golf. They have taught me great life lessons through the game of golf. Golf has given me confidence to believe in myself, achieve good grades in school, and support others to help them build confidence in themselves.

Throughout my five years in The First Tee, my coaches have instilled the importance of sportsmanship. They say it doesn’t matter if you win or lose, it’s how you play the game. I take that further to that is how you life your life. I try to encourage others to do their best and to stay positive no matter the circumstance. Sportsmanship makes life and golf more fun with a positive attitude. Sportsmanship to me is cheering as hard for others as you do for yourself to succeed.

The First Tee, my family, and my golf coaches have shown me the importance of using the nine core values every day. I’m excited to continue improving and succeeding in life and golf. I cannot wait to get older so I can be a junior golf coach at The First Tee and help other kids fall in love with the game of golf. Lastly, I would like to thank you for the time you took in watching my video. Again, thank you and goodbye. Through high school and college, ohhh!
